有物混成，先天地生。寂兮寥兮，独立不败，周行而不殆，可以为天地母。
《老子》第25章
‘There was something formless yet complete that existed before Heaven and Earth. Soundless and formless ,it depends upon nothing external ,and operates in a circular motion ceaselessly. It may be considered the root of all beings under Heaven.

混成:混然而成。寂兮事兮:寂，无声。寥，无形。周行:循环运动。殆:同怠，懈息，引申为停止。母:根本，基本。
[译文]
有一物形成于混沌中，出现在天地形成之前。它无声无形，独立存在永不改变，循环运行永不停止，可以把它称为天地万物产生的基础。
