善为士者不武，善战者不想，善胜敌者不与，善用人者为之下。
《老子》第68章
He who in good at being an officer does not boast of his martial prowess;he who is good at fighting does not resort to rage ;he who is skilful at defeating enemies does not wrestle with them ;and he who is skilful at managing his men has a modest attitude toward them.

士:古代文人、武人皆称“士”，这里指武土，一说指将官。王粥生:“土，率 之帅也。”不武:不表现勇武。武，勇猛，勇敢。(诗经 .郑风。羔裘》:“孔武有力。”不想:不会被激怒。不与:不争。与，对付。这里指与敌人作战。为之下:处人之下。为，处，居。之，代指所用的人。

善于带兵的人不尚勇武，善于作战的人不容易被敌人激怒，善于致胜的人不会依靠攻伐，善于用人的人先对人表示谦下。
