合抱之木，生于毫末;九层之台，起于累土;千里之行，始于足下。
《老子》第64章
A huge tree which fills one’ s arms grows from a small heap of earth; a high terrace which has nine storeys rises from a small heap of earth ;a journey of a thousand li begins with the first step.

毫末:毛的尖端，比喻细小。毫，长而尖锐的毛。累:同“菜”，装土的筐子。 高亨(《老子正话》:“起于累土士， 犹言起于赛土也。”千里之行:有本作“千仞之 高”。意为“登上千仞高山，必从脚下第一 步开始”，亦可通。

合抱的大树，是由细小的萌芽长成的;九层高台，是从第一筐土筑起来的;千里长行，是从第一步开始的。
